You won’t be able to get them in record stores yet, but Tender Forever’s “Wider” (LP or CD) and WOELV’s “Tout Seul dans la Foret en Plein Jour, Avez-Vous Peur?” (LP + Book or CD) are both available for purchase via the K Mail Order Dept.
I just ordered Tender Forever’s “Wider”, but I had the opportunity to purchase WOELV’s new LP + Book a month or so ago when she performed in Chicago. I highly recommend the LP format specifically, as it comes with a large book (a phenominal package) that really gives the listener extra context (especially if you don’t speak French) through multiple translations and art by Genevieve.
Prolific singer-songwriter, producer, sound engineer, and Saturday Looks Good To Me frontman, Fred Thomas, has released his fifth solo album on Magic Marker Records entitled “Flood”. This is the second non-CDR, non-Michigan only release from Thomas.
The record is a step away from the ultra-poppy noise that Saturday Looks Good To Me fans have gotten used to. You can order a copy by clicking here, and listen to the last track of the album called “Last One” below.
Chicago’s Mahjongg, who I had the pleasure of seeing tonight @ The Empty Bottle as “Waterbabies”, will be touring in January before they release their K debut, “Kontpab”, in February according to paste magazine.
I was stuck indoors this weekend due to a flu / cold thing, so I decided to make a stop-motion crayonimation video for Old Time Relijun’s “Daemon Meeting”, enjoy.
We recently started a Vimeo channel which will contain all things K on Vimeo. Please subscribe if you are a Vimeo member. Although YouTube will remain our primary venue for videos (particuarly full-length shows), our Vimeo channel will always debut our Dub Narcotic Video Singles series before they air on YouTube, as the videos on Vimeo are of higher quality.
The Dub Narcotic Video Singles series are exerpts and highlights of previously uploaded full-length shows from our YouTube channel. Below is a list of the first batch of video singles.
Hornet Leg is Chris Sutton’s (Dub Narcotic Sound System, C.O.C.O., Spider and the Webs) latest project which includes Claudia Meza (Thunder! Thunder! Thunder!, Japanther) and sometimes Joel Brazzel (K production manager extraordinaire).
I recently caught up with Chris and he has informed me that a new Hornet Leg 7″ will be out soon called “The Blood Trilogy”. We will be sure to write about the new 45 as soon as it is released.
In other Hornet Leg news, Local Cut posted a CMJ report which features Hornet Leg photos and video from their CMJ set, check it out.
Jeremy Jay has added another 45 to the International Pop Underground pile with “We Were There” b/w “Beautiful Dreamer”. Don’t confuse this with the recently released “Airwalker” 7″ / CDEP, which is now available at the K Mail Order Dept.
Also available from the K Mail Order Dept, new Saturday Looks Good To Me shirts for boys and girls. Not to mention, just in time for winter, K mittens!
The Allmusic Blog posted an interview with Saturday Looks Good To Me headmaster, Fred Thomas. In the interview Thomas talks about the move from Polyvinyl to K, the making of Fill Up The Room, and the role of Betty Marie Barnes in the band.
You can also find audio samples of the new album, you can read the interview here.
